Suriya Akter/ Bangladesh

Suriya Akter/ BangladeshSuriya Akter is 13 years old. She is one of six children in her family – 3 boys and 3 girls. Her mother is a housewife and her father works as a servant, earning $45 a month. This little amount is not enough to support the educational expenses of all the children and some of the girls may have marriages arranged as a result. 

Suriya’s dream is to become a doctor to help other poor families. She is now attending the 7th grade at Joymontop High School on a scholarship from Supporting Success and is earning all A’s and B’s. She will be entering the 8th grade in January, 2010.

 

 
Sraboni Akter/ Bangladesh
Sraboni Akter/ BangladeshSraboni Akter is 11 years old. She has two brothers and one sister, and is the youngest in her family. Her name means “Rainy Day”. She lives in the village of Jaigeer, which she loves very much. Most of the people in her village are farmers and she wants to return to Jaigeer after she finishes her study.

Sraboni’s father is a small businessman and her mother has also started her own small business making women’s dresses with a loan that she received from IRFF.

Sraboni is now in the 7th grade at Joymontop High School, on a scholarship from Supporting Success. She is earning all A’s and B’s in her classes. She will be entering the 8th grade in January 2010.
 
Sadiya Akter/ Bangladesh
Sadiya Akter/ Bangladesh Sadiya Akter is 11 years old. She is the youngest of three girls in her family. Her father is a school teacher and earns about $30 a month. It is difficult for him to support his family on this salary and they struggle to survive. Because the family can rarely afford meat, they eat mainly only rice and vegetables.

Sadiya lives in a house made of bamboo and straw. When storms come, she is always worried that their home will be destroyed by the wind and rain. They have no bathroom in their home so they bathe in a pond nearby. Sadiya’s hobby is cooking and she likes to help her mother in the kitchen.

Sadiya is now in the 7th grade at Dhalla Union Council High School on a scholarship from Supporting Succes and is earning A’s and B’s in all her classes. She will be entering the 8th grade in January, 201o and is determined to get her degree so that she can help her family.
 
Ruma Aktar/ Bangladesh
Ruma Aktar/ BangladeshRuma Aktar is 12 years old. She has two sisters. Her family relies on her father for their income. He is a small farmer and only earns about $28 a month, which is not enough to support the family. Because of this, the family relies on rice for almost all of their meals. They rarely can eat meat or fish because it is too expensive for them. The family often cannot even afford soap to wash themselves. Ruma’s village is very beautiful, but is flooded by rainwater for three months every year. During that time she has to take a boat to school or anywhere else that she needs to go.

Ruma is currently in the 7th grade at Dhalla Union Council High School on a scholarship from Supporting Success and is earning all A’s and B’s in her classes. She will be entering the 8th grade in January, 2010 and wants to graduate so that she can help others in her village when she is older.
 
Nusrat Jhan Marin / Bangladesh
Nusrat Jhan Marin is 13 years old. She lives with her brother, sister and mother. Her father died a few years ago and her mother cannot work, so the family now has no income and they rely on relatives to survive. Her sister is also very sick, which puts a further strain on the family.

Nusrat is currently in the 7th grade at Joymontop High School on a scholarship from Supporting Success and is earning all A’s in her classes. She will be entering the 8th grade in January, 2010.
 
Mijanur Rahman/ Bangladesh
Mijanur Rahman is 12 years old. He lives in a small village called Singair Upazila and has a large family – 3 brothers and 4 sisters. The entire family depends on the income of his father, who is a small farmer and earns only about $35 a month, making it very difficult for his father to support the family.

Mijanur is currently in the 7th grade at Dhalla Union High School on a scholarship from Supporting Success and is earning all A’s and B’s in his classes. He will be entering the 8th grade in January, 2010 and his goal is to become a teacher when he graduates.
 
Marzan Akter Mira/ Bangladesh
Marzan Akter Mira is 13 years old. Her hobby is gardening and she likes to help her mother with chores.
Marzan lives with her parents and one sister. Her mother is a housewife and her father is an imam (priest) in the local mosque. His salary is only $36 a month, which is not enough for him to support the family.

Marzan is in the 7th grade at Joymontop High School on a scholarship from Supporting Success and is earning all A’s and B’s in her classes. She will be entering the 8th grade in January, 2010. Marzan likes school very much and someday hopes to return to her elementary school, the Jaigeer Primary School, as a teacher.
 
Juborag Mia/ Bangladesh
Juborag Mia is 12 years old. His lives with his parents and three sisters in a house made of bamboo and straw. His father is a small farmer and only earns about $35 a month, which is not enough to support his family.

Juborag’s hobbies are playing soccer with his friends and helping with his family’s garden. He lives in a small village that is far from any town.

Juborag is now in the 7th grade at Union Council High School on a scholarship from Supporting Success. He is earning all A’s and B’s in his classes and will be entering the 8th grade in January, 2010.
 
Helena Akter/ Bangladesh

Helena Akter is 12 years old. She has three sisters and two brothers. Her mother stays at home to take care of the children and the home, and her father owns his own small business, where he makes about $50 a month. The family lives in a farming village in a very simple house made mostly of straw.

Helena’s sisters and brothers attend school and their father is struggling to pay tuition for all of them. Helena is currently in the 7th grade at Joymontop High School on a scholarship from Supporting Success, which really helps her family in their struggle to pay their bills. She will be entering the 8th grade in January, 2010.

Education is very important to Helena and she is receiving grades of A+ in all of her classes. She dreams of becoming a doctor one day.

 
Amir Hamja/ Bangladesh
Amir Hamja is 13 years old. He likes to play soccer and his favorite food is mango.

Amir is the youngest child in his family and has two sisters. His mother is a housewife and his father is a small businessman who earns around $50 a month. His two sisters are in school and it is very difficult for his father to cover all of their educational expenses, so Amir’s sponsorship by Supporting Success is a big help to the family. Amir is currently in the 7th grade at Joymontop High School and is earning grades of A+ in all of his classes. He will be entering the 8th grade in January, 2010. Amir dreams of becoming an engineer and wants desperately to continue in school in order to achieve his dream.
 
Arif Hossain/ Bangladesh
Arif is 10 years old and has two brothers and two sisters. He is the youngest in his family. His father works on the very small farm that they own, but also works as a day laborer on other people’s farms to make extra money to support the family. They live in a very simple home with a dirt floor and no electricity. It is not big enough for the whole family, so his parents sleep in a simple hut outside. Every year, during the rainy season, their home is flooded and sometimes poisonous snakes come into the house.
Arif is currently in the 6th grade at Union Council High School on a scholarship from Supporting Success and will be entering the 7th grade in January, 2010. He likes to read and wants to be a teacher when he grows up.
 
Arman Hossain/ Bangladesh
Arman is 10 years old and has one brother and one sister. He is the oldest in the family and lives with his parents as well as his four uncles. His father is a teacher. He likes to read scary books and his favorite food is eggs.

Arman is currently in the 6th grade at Hazmatpur High School on a scholarship from Supporting Success and will be entering the 7th grade in January, 2010. He enjoys school and does very well. He wants to become a doctor when he grows up to help the poor people of his village.

Jakir is 10 years old and has one brother. His father works as a driver. They live in a simple house made of tin. His favorite hobby is playing soccer and his favorite food is lentils.

Jakir is currently in the 6th grade at Joymontop High School on a scholarship from Supporting Success and will be entering the 7th grade in January, 2010. Last year in his elementary school, he had the highest grades in the entire 5th grade. He likes school and his teachers and wants to become a doctor to help poor people when he grows up.
 
Gift Kayata/ Zambia
Gift is 14 years old and is the youngest of eight children. Both of his parents passed away, so he and his brothers and sisters live with their aunt in a two bedroom house. His aunt suffers from severe asthma, which makes it difficult for her to work, so the family struggles to get by.
He is currently in the seventh grade at Dzikomo Basic School on a scholarship from Supporting Success and is doing very well in his classes. His favorite subject is Science and he wants to be a lawyer after he finishes school. He will be entering the 8th grade in January, 2010.
 
Kanon Akter/ Bangladesh
Kanon is 10 years old and is the oldest of two girls in her family. She lives with her parents, her sister and her grandmother in a simple house made of tin. Surrounded by bamboo bushes and mango trees. The father does not make much money and struggles to support the family.

Kanon is currently in the 6th grade at Joymontop High School on a scholarship from Supporting Success and will be starting the 7th grade in January, 2010. She likes to garden and to read funny stories. Her favorite meal is meat and rice and her favorite fruit is apple. She wants to become a pilot when she grows up.
 
Masud Rana/ Bangladesh
Masud is 10 years old and is the oldest of three boys in his family. His family owns a very small piece of land that his father farms to make a living, but they struggle to get by, so Masud lives with his grandmother in a one room home that does not have electricity. He helps his father to farm sometimes, usually pulling weeds.

He is currently in the 6th grade at Union Council High School on a scholarship from Supporting Success and will be entering the 7th grade in January, 2010. He likes to study and dreams of becoming a doctor to help poor people.
 
Nayeem Mia/ Bangladesh
Nayeem is 10 years old and has two brothers and one sister. His father is a day laborer and struggles to support the family. They live in a simple house made of tin.

Nayeem’s hobby is reading books and his favorite food is fish and rice. He is currently in the 6th grade at Joymontop High School on a scholarship from Supporting Success and will be entering the 7th grade in January, 2010. He likes school and his teachers very much and dreams of becoming a lawyer when he gets older.
 
Rajib Hossain/ Bangladesh
Rajib is 10 years old and is the fourth of six children in his family. He lives with his mother and his brothers and sisters in a simple home made of tin. His uncles help to provide for them because his father passed away and his mother does not work.
Rajib does not have electricity in his home. He studies at night with a kerosene lamp. He wants to be a scientist when he grows up and he likes to play cricket with his friends. His favorite food is fish and his favorite fruit is mango.
Rajib is currently in the 6th grade at Joymontop High School on a scholarship from Supporting Success and will be entering the 7th grade in January, 2010.
 
Shahana Akter/ Bangladesh
Shahana is 11 years old and has two sisters. Her father is a day laborer and earns very little. The family lives in a simple house made of tin with dirt floors, surrounded by mango trees. She likes to read ghost stories and her favorite food is sweets.

Shahana is currently in the 6th grade at Joymontop High School on a scholarship from Supporting Success and will be entering the 7th grade in January, 2010. She wants to become a doctor when she grows up, and she wants to specialize in women’s health.

 

Shopon Komer / Bangladesh
Shopon is 11 years old and has two brothers and three sisters. He is the fourth oldest in the family. His father is a farmer on the very small piece of land that they own. They all live in a one room house made of tin with dirt floors and no electricity. Shopon studies at night using a kerosene lamp. He helps his father farm and also helps him fish in the nearby river.

Shopon is currently in the 6th grade at Union Council High School on a scholarship from Supporting Success and will be entering the 7th grade in January, 2010. He wants to become a doctor when he grows up because many people in his village cannot afford medical care.
 
Soma Akter/ Bangladesh
Soma is 10 years old and has two brothers and one sister. Her father works as a driver and she lives with her family and her grandmother in a simple brick house. When it rains a lot, their house is surrounded by water and they must make a bridge out of bamboo to get to the main road. Despite this, Soma loves her village because everything is always green and there are many rivers.

Soma is currently in the 6th grade at Joymontop High School on a scholarship from Supporting Success and will be entering the 7th grade in January, 2010. She dreams of becoming a police officer when she grows up.
